And it was a beautiful thing.

Alan Colmes took Matt Barber to task on his show for his ignorant contention that healthcare reform is a “government takeover of 1/6 of the economy,” saying that Barber is either lying or he doesn’t understand what’s going on. Barber then tried to explain his beliefs by using the Latin phrase res ipsa loquitur (roughly, “it speaks for itself,” which is the laziest way of arguing known to man and, not coincidentally, the favorite arguing style of social conservatives), repeating the phrase several times as if the fact that his wingnutty, fact-free assertions are self-evident to him absolves him from any responsibility for explaining himself or proving his points. I appreciate the fact that throughout this interview Alan Colmes repeatedly used the word “lying” to describe Barber’s claims, because that’s the most accurate term. This is not political posturing. Matt Barber doesn’t have a different, yet equally valid viewpoint. He simply lies.

Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to collect the video for our blog, but Jeremy has it posted, along with more commentary. So go there!
