What is that saying about justice delayed is justice denied?
On Monday afternoon, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit reversed a decision Judge Walker made on Aug. 12 in which he ordered his Aug. 4 ruling to take effect on Aug. 18. In a brief order, Ninth Circuit judges Sidney Thomas, Edward Levy and Michael Daly Hawkins, extended the stay until it has a chance to consider a full review of Judge Walker’s Aug. 4 order.
Once again, same-sex couples are told to check their rights at the door until the lords of our lives make decisions about whether the U.S. constitution applies to us. We should not read too much into this, because it will not affect the case. However, every day that passes where we are second class citizens stings — and cheapens the promise of America.
