Fundamentalist “media” outlets have proven, once again, that they are a shameful propaganda tool for social conservative ex-gay-prideorganizations. Such media companies have shredded their credibility and have become the laughingstock of news journalists across the nation. The latest outrage is their unprofessional handling of the cancellation of “Ex-Gay Pride Month,” which had events scheduled for July 31.

The new “ex-gay” organization, Voice of the Voiceless, touted this event as a major development that would showcase the existence of the allegedly invisible “ex-gay” masses. This included a fancy fundraising dinner at the Family Research Council, which had invited members of Congress, such as Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). Instead of a major event advancing their cause, “Ex-Gay Pride” has ignominiously collapsed and been reduced to a man known as Grandpa, Doug McIntyre, driving a logo-covered pick-up truck from Houston to Washington, DC while preaching at truck stops along his disorganized route.

This embarrassing publicity stunt gone awry is hardly evidence of the existence of so-called “ex-gays.” If anything, it confirms our contention that the only people who claim to have gone from gay-to-straight work for “ex-gay” organizations and stand to profit from this lie. McIntyre, for instance, works for Homosexuals Anonymous, a group that reached infamy after its libidinous founder, Colin Cook, stepped down for giving nude massages to clients and allegedly turning group therapy sessions into circle jerks.

Voice of the Voiceless founder and “Ex-Gay Pride Month” originator, Christopher Doyle, made a significant promise to showcase the widespread existence of “ex-gays,” and was notably unable to deliver. In the shadow of his disastrous, crumbling side show, Doyle needed to save face and find an excuse to explain his bumbling mishap. Conveniently, the charlatan made unsubstantiated claims of threats of violence leveled against “Ex-Gay Pride” that were allegedly made by unnamed gay activists.

Instead of investigating these serious allegations, like real reporters, key Christian media happily parroted Doyle and McIntyre’s unfounded accusations Christian Postand reported their claim of martyrdom as if it were true. Here is an example of The Christian Post’s shoddy reporting, that was under the inflammatory headline, “Ex-Gay Activist Begins 10-Day Trip to Washington Against ‘Homo-Fascism:”

An ex-gay activist began on Sunday a 10-day road trip to Washington, D.C., starting in Dallas, Texas, in response to recent security threats against former homosexuals that led to the postponement of a first-ever “Ex-Gay Pride Month” event scheduled for July 31 until September.

“How dare they try to disrupt our event on July 31, intimidate, and threaten us! I’m not going to take it anymore!” said Dr. Douglas McIntyre, co-founder of Homosexuals Anonymous, as he announced the trip in a statement issued by Voice of the Voiceless (VoV), which defends the rights of former homosexuals.

McIntyre is calling his tour, “Grandpa Goes to Washington,” as he is a grandfather. The trip comes days after the first-ever Ex-Gay Pride Month reception, scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C. on July 31, was postponed until September following multiple security threats directed toward members of the ex-gay community and the Family Research Council, the venue of the planned event.

Here is the biased coverage from Charisma News, under the provocative headline, “Harassment, Threats Prompt Schedule Changes for Ex-Gay Pride Events”:

Anti-ex-gay extremism and harassment by the opposition has prompted Family Research Council (FRC) organizations Voice of the Voiceless and Equality and Justice to change their plans for Ex-Gay Pride 2013. Charisma NewsThe July 31 Lobbying Day on Capitol Hill has been cancelled, and the evening dinner/reception at FRC is being moved to an undisclosed location in September because of security threats.

Socially conservative media outlets want to be taken seriously, but it is difficult to do so when they fail at basic reporting and appear incapable of critical thinking. Their media regularly showcases extremism, promotes anti-intellectualism, and has an aversion to fact-checking demanded of students working at middle school newspapers. Most of all, these Christian propaganda centers show remarkable disdain for their own readers. They seem to think that their customers are either too ignorant or intellectually lazy to want real facts and legitimate reporting. One would think that such people would hold “Christian” media to a higher standard and reject being spoon fed misinformation, but maybe they are as delusional and uneducated as these publications think they are.

It is the right of Charisma and The Christian Post to produce an inferior product and treat their readers as infants and fools. However, they should stop pretending they are Christians, who are supposed to care about honesty, integrity, and decency. None of these values are evident in the dishonest work put forth by these third-rate publications, which are failing its readers by propagating lies instead of perpetuating truth.

At the moment, there is zero evidence that threats were made against “Ex-Gay Pride” by LGBT advocates — and less than zero effort by supposedly Christian media to find facts that might upset their fictitious storyline.
