It is almost 2016, which marks Truth Wins Out’s ten-year anniversary!
In 2006, I personally promised to destroy the “ex-gay” industry. Few people thought we would triumph. But we did succeed in spectacular fashion. When I founded Truth Wins Out, our main foes were Exodus International, Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out” program, and Love in Action. They are all gone – yet Truth Wins Out is STILL standing.
We made huge PROMISES – and these promises were KEPT.
The latest victory against the “ex-gay” industry is the fall of Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality (JONAH). Earlier this year, the Southern Poverty Law Center sued them on the grounds of “consumer fraud.” JONAH lost and is forced to shut its doors.
Truth Wins Out played a major role in the fall of JONAH. We (along with South Florida Gay News) exposed the group’s co-founder, Arthur Abba Goldberg, as a con artist felon who was jailed for bilking clients when he worked as a trader on Wall Street. Later, we videotaped two JONAH clients who claimed that a JONAH counselor had sexually harassed them. We placed this groundbreaking video on YouTube – and these men ended up as two key plaintiffs in the JONAH consumer fraud case. (See Newsweek story on JONAH’s demise)
Unfortunately, the fight isn’t over. There are right wing extremists who will wage their bigoted war against LGBT equality. Truth Wins Out needs your help to continue our battle. In 2016 we will:
• Fight and destroy the “ex-gay” industry
• Monitor and challenge anti-gay extremists at home and abroad
• Advocate in the media
• Capitalize on the unique and powerful platform offered by The Wayne Besen Show on Chicago’s WCPT-AM & FM to promote equality
