Fernando Cardinal Sebastian has made some remarkably ignorant and intolerant remarks about gay people. According to the “holy man”:
“Homosexuality is a defective manner of expressing sexuality, because this has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation,” the Cardinal said in an interview with Diario Sur. “A homosexual who can’t achieve this (procreation) is failing…Our bodies have many defects. I have high blood pressure….To say that homosexuality is a defect is not an insult: it helps because in many cases of homosexuality it is possible to recover and become normal with the right treatment.”
1) This is hugely insulting to heterosexuals who can’t procreate. The Cardinal has, in effect, said they are defective too.
2) If homosexuality can be cured by Catholic priests, why are there so many gay Catholic priests?
3) If priestly magic can cure people from being gay, why can’t it cure people of pedophilia? Or, is defrocking 400 holy men for raping boys what the Vatican means by recovery?
4) What he said was scientifically bankrupt.
This outrageous stupidity on human sexuality coming out of this largely discredited church seems to have no end. Roman Catholic priests should really stop speaking out on issues in which they have no education or moral authority.
