On Thursday, Oct. 10, a coalition of mainstream Christians, LGBT leaders, and progressive advocates spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. to take back the mantle of religion from anti-gay extremists. They offered a different, more enlightened vision for the future of America – one where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The event occurred one day prior to the annual Values Voter Summit, a conference that is organized by America’s most virulent hate groups. The Values Voter Summit features speakers who send the vile message that LGBT people are unworthy, morally and spiritually broken, and a danger to society.
