Truth Wins Out is thrilled to announce that a NALT Christians Project video has reached a quarter of a million views! In just 48-seconds, the Lord Family from Memphis captivated the world with a magnificent message. As deacons in their local church, they proclaimed as Christians that being gay is not a sin and that LGBT people are friends and family members that “play important roles in our lives.”
Watch the video that everyone is talking about and let us know what you think. And, if you like what we are doing, please consider a tax-deductible donation today to help fund this inspiring effort created by Truth Wins Out, John Shore, and Dan Savage.
For the unacquainted, NALT is an exciting new platform for pro-LGBT Christians to proclaim their strong support for equality and tell the world that Christians are, “Not All Like That.” For too long, the Christian message has been delivered by zealots like Rev. Pat Robertson and Tony Perkins — but not anymore. Inspired by Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” project, NALT Christians are uploading videos to YouTube for the world to see – and we strongly urge you to make a video of your own.
Throughout my career, I have battled Christian fundamentalists who have hijacked the mantle of religion. These charlatans have belittled our community, used the Bible to abuse their own children, and unscrupulously exploited faith to strip LGBT people of their basic rights.
Thankfully, I have also met many wonderful people of faith who support equality. They have fought with me on the front lines against the theocrats and have been noble and reliable allies.
However, for every mainstream Christian supporter in the trenches, there are thousands who have not yet openly joined our fight for fairness. The NALT Christians Project is an innovative new platform that hopes to change this dynamic by getting our silent supporters off of the sidelines. We need to motivate and inspire more allies to come forward and join our movement – and that is what our NALT Christians Project is about.
Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the NALT Christians Project today. With your help we can change hearts and minds, while reclaiming faith for those who believe in fairness. Together, we can challenge the negative messages and stereotypes disseminated by the Religious Right, and expand the number of allies we have fighting by our side.
I can hear some people saying, “why should I give, I’m not a Christian?”
But we are all in this together. Christians are still the majority in this country and how they perceive LGBT people and vote is critically important:
1) Vulnerable children are depending on us to reach their parents and pastors with messages of love and support
2) We don’t have to agree on theology to understand that the more we expand our coalition the sooner we will have equality.
3) The Religious Right is devious. They depend on a divide and conquer strategy, and that is why they are more powerful than their actual numbers. Let’s not help them by erecting unnecessary barriers. When we have friends and allies who want to assist us in achieving equality, we should greet them with open arms. The NALT Christians Project is a vehicle to facilitate the expansion of our movement.
Visit our website today and watch the inspiring messages of love and support. You will quickly realize the raw power and vitality of this critically important project. If you want to help us, please consider a tax-deductible contribution of $25, $50, $100, or $1,000+ to ensure our success. Be a part of something magical that holds so much promise. (Read about NALT in TIME magazine or Leonard Pitts syndicated column)
Additionally, it is crucial that we post as many videos as possible. Whether you are LGBT or straight — now is the time to make your own NALT video. It’s easy and simple to do, plus it costs nothing! If you are a pastor or a church leader think about hosting a NALT Sunday at your church. This would involve bringing a video camera and urging congregants to make a short NALT video after Sunday services.
Let’s make history today by welcoming new allies and creating a bulwark against anti-LGBT religious extremism. Please, support our vision by making a NALT video or contributing a tax-deductible contribution right now. Together, we can have a major impact on our politics, religion, and culture, while changing the world into the loving place we imagine it should be.
Warm Regards,
