Rev. Albert Mohler’ Views Are Dangerous and Culturally Myopic, says TWO
Miami Beach, FLA. — Truth Wins Out expressed outrage today with comments made by Rev. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on his personal website which suggested that if it were discovered that homosexuality had a biological basis, it would be morally acceptable for a mother to use a hormonal treatment patch to ensure her child was born heterosexual.
“If a biological basis is found, and if a prenatal test is then developed, and if a successful treatment to reverse the sexual orientation to heterosexual is ever developed, we would support its use as we should unapologetically support the use of any appropriate means to avoid sexual temptation and the inevitable effects of sin,” wrote Mohler.
“Mohler’ promotion of a scientific “Final Solution’ is repugnant, unconscionable and morally reprehensible,” said Truth Wins Out’ Executive Director Wayne Besen. “Mohler has ripped away the phony veneer of “love’ that the Southern Baptist Convention has repeatedly professed for gay people. The SBC is showing the same level of hatred and ignorance about gay Americans that it once reserved for African Americans.”
Mohler’ advocacy for the elimination of homosexuals is shortsighted and culturally myopic, considering that research on the biological origins of religious belief is also a robust field of scientific inquiry.
“Once Mohler carves out a gay exception to the value of human life, on what moral basis can he say that a future hormonal patch can’t be used to eliminate people of faith?” asked Besen. “What Mohler is proposing is a slippery slope that can one day be used to wipe out many groups of people, including Christians in parts of the world where they are now persecuted for their beliefs.”
