Bryan Fischer is so excited that Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family, is a bigot like him, and he’s rapid-fire tweeting about it today:
And that, y’all, is what it looks like when a wingnut is desperately trying to convince himself something is true. The only net result this is going to have, Bryan, is that Duck Dynasty may lose viewers who are hunters, but who are not bigots. It may seem, down yonder in Tupelo, that this show is the end-all, be-all, but really, most Americans don’t give a damn about it. But if it makes you feel manly, Bryan, and I do assume that is a rare feeling for you, feel free to prepare for the upcoming war for the soul of the duck hunting teevee show.
Also, Robertson has already started to make an attempt (a poor one) at an apology:
“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
Whatever. It’s not a real apology, but I’m having a hard time getting too worked up about this one. As I said above, the only viewers they stand to lose are hunters who are not bigots. Any liberals who were watching were doing so in a “what in the hell is on my television right now?” sort of way.
