UPDATE BELOW

Here is a story about a couple in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, who probably honestly believe that they are being Good Christians™:

A local server was thanked for good service during a recent meal at an Overland Park restaurant, and also received an anti-gay message with no tip.

KMBC 9 News found out about the incident on Facebook, where customers at the Carrabba’s Italian Grill at 106th Street and Metcalf Avenue are rallying to the server’s support.

Here’s what happened: A server went to pick up a check from a meal, and found a message on the back of the bill.  It read: “Thank you for your service, it was excellent.  That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God.  May God have mercy on you.”

What loving human beings. Now I know what that “and they will know we are Christians by our love” hymn is all about. The server, for his part, appreciates the show of support. Also, it’s good to know that, even in Kansas City, people find this couple’s behavior appalling:

“I think it’s so unfortunate that we would impress upon other people our beliefs,” said Susan Fehlig.

“It’s honestly despicable.  It’s not different than saying I’m not tipping you because you’re black, or a Jew, or anything like that,” said Will Rogers.  “In this day and age, being gay, it’s not really any cause for a fuss.”

Indeed. What obnoxious, rude people.

UPDATE: The note they left is worse than what’s reported above. They actually called the server a “fag” multiple times. This is while they’re claiming to speak for God. Yeah. Lovely people.
