When I wrote this morning reporting that San Miguel County in New Mexico had become the fourth in the state to allow marriage equality, I had apparently missed the news that Valencia County actually beat San Miguel by a few hours, making San Miguel the fifth county in the state, rather than the fourth. Here’s the news about Valencia County:
San Miguel County Clerk Melanie Rivera said she has rush ordered gender-neutral marriage licenses. She also said if people want to get married Tuesday, she can alter the licenses to say “spouse.”
Valencia County Clerk Peggy Carabajal said she should have gender-neutral licenses ready by Wednesday. She also said she is willing to alter licenses if people want to get married Tuesday.
Fantastic news all around. Who will be next?
