Yesterday, I testified at a NJ Senate committee that voted 5-0, with one abstention, to move forward a bill to the full gregoryquinlan990Assembly that would ban so-called “ex-gay” therapy for minors. At the hearing, Greg Quinlan, President of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) also testified with his usual mix of insanity and hyperbole. Here is what he had to say:

“We are raping parents of their children, not giving them the right to guide their child,” said Greg Quinlan of New Jersey Family First. “Talk therapy is talk therapy. There’s no danger in talking.”

Such tomfoolery is no surprise coming Quinlan, the mastermind of the media strategy to label this bill (S2278) the “Jerry Sandusky Victimization Act.” You have to love Quinlan — a man so crazy that he thought he could confuse or intimidate lawmakers by invoking the name of Sandusky. If this loon didn’t exist we’d have to invent him. When he’s not busy faking hate crimes for PFOX or making bogus allegations about hits on his life — these are the maniacal  machinations that float through his demented brain. (During the hearing, the chairwoman basically called Quinlan a liar for grossly distorting what she had said about the bill.)

In other news from the hearing — I would urge the Newark Star-Ledger not to call people like Chris Doyle “former homosexuals.” Here is the sentence from their story:

Christopher Doyle a counselor at the California-based International Healing Foundation and a former homosexual, said the stories about this form of therapy forced on minors are distorted and untrue.

The proper journalistic term is “alleged former homosexual,” since history has shown us that those who have made this bogus claim are usually caught in scandal or come out of the closet. Furthermore, it is as impossible to be a former homosexual as it is to be a former tree or a former airplane. There is no such thing as a former homosexual — it is a myth.

Meanwhile, Christopher Doyle used his family like they were mere props, holding up an utterly ridiculous blown up photo of his family. Maybe next time I’ll gather Jamie, Doinkers, Pom Pom, and Critter and we will pose for a photo I will enlarge at the Kinkos and bring into a hearing.

What are they a family or a trophy exploited for political gain?
