The RNC is having their spring meeting in Hollywood, you know, so they can vote against gay rights but still have a chance to hook up (probably):
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rob Portman changed his mind and many GOP leaders would just as soon change the subject. But socially conservative Republican National Committee members gathering in one of the most gay-friendly places in the country are pushing the party to redouble its opposition to gay marriage.
They may well succeed.
Republican National Committee members here for their spring meeting are set to vote Friday on a resolution reaffirming the party’s official position that marriage should be solely between one man and one woman. It is expected to pass overwhelmingly.
It would be an emphatic statement by evangelicals that they’re still a force that must be reckoned with on the RNC’s 168-member governing body — even as many establishment leaders would prefer to focus on party mechanics and avoid hot-button social issues.
Meanwhile, Tony Perkins and a bunch of his hate group buddies have gotten together to collectively whine at the party bosses, doing their part to make sure that the GOP remains a group of rapidly dying-off white men:
Prominent social conservative Tony Perkins called on political activists Thursday evening to withhold contributions to Republican campaign committees, as the GOP is embroiled in a debate over social issues.
Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, made the request in an email to supporters of his organization, as members of the Republican National Committee met in California to discuss campaign strategy and political messaging.
“Until the RNC and the other national Republican organizations grow a backbone and start defending core principles, don’t send them a dime of your hard-earned money,” Perkins said in the email, a copy of which was obtained by CNN. “If you want to invest in the political process, and I encourage you to do so, give directly to candidates who reflect your values and organizations you trust-like FRC Action.”
Perkins’ organization joined 12 other like-minded political groups in criticizing the RNC for “marginalizing social conservatives and avoiding the issues which attract and energize them by the millions,” in a letter sent to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus earlier this week.
Lord. The GOP sure is making life easy for Democrats on this issue.
