“My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunit
y the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life,” Obama said. “The Scouts are a great institution that are promoting young people and exposing them to opportunities and leadership that will serve people for the rest of their lives. And I think nobody should be barred from that.”
Meanwhile, down in Texas, Gov. Rick Perry — who made a complete ass of himself when he ran for president — is bashing the Boy Scouts for even thinking of going in a less bigoted direction.
“Hopefully the board will follow their historic position of keeping the Scouts strongly supportive of the values that make scouting this very important and impactful organization,” said perry, the former presidential candidate who couldn’t even remember which departments he would eliminate, when pandering to the Teabaggers during a failed debate performance.
Interestingly, the backwards governor is trying to woo businesses in California:
Gov. Rick Perry tweeted his Twitter followers today that a radio spot bashing California and boasting about Texas
began “hitting the airwaves today in CA.” The idea is to encourage California businesses to move to Texas. The ad opens with Perry saying, “Building a business is tough. But I hear building a business in California is next to impossible.” The governor invites folks in the Golden State to check the governor’s web site Texas Open for Business to get the low down on Perry’s pitch. The governor made particular mention of the state’s benefits as low taxes, ”sensible regulation” and a legal system that limits the ability sue businesses when someone is injured or killed.
Did it ever occur to Perry that he is the reason that business owners in California might not want to relocate? Between his talk of secession, his kowtowing to religious extremists, his dumb as rocks persona, and his anti-gay attitudes, he is the single worst argument for anyone to leave California.
