Ignorance is bliss and this is why Salt Lake City NBC affiliate won’t air new gay-themed sitcom “The New Normal.” According to the Salt Lake Tribune:

The prospect of two gay men having a baby proved too much for the LDS Church-owned station.

“From time to time we may struggle with content that crosses the line in one area or another,” said Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International. “The dialogue might be excessively rude and crude. The scenes may be too explicit or the characterizations might seem offensive.”

This marks the second consecutive year KSL is refusing to carry an NBC show. A year ago, then-KSL CEO Mark Willes said the station wouldn’t air “The Playboy Club” because the KSL brand “is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand.”

Simpson echoed those words when he said, “For our brand, this program feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.”

“The New Normal” is set to debut on NBC on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 p.m.

The LDS church fully understands that when Americans learn the truth about LGBT people, ignorance melts away and the road to acceptance begins. So, their solution is to play nanny and censor a show that accurately depicts the real lives of LGBT people. However, in doing so KSL is treating area viewers as if they are naughty little children who can’t think for themselves. First, many people in Salt Lake City are not Mormons, or they are liberal Mormons, who would like to make personal decisions about what shows they watch. Second, what a slap in the face to all Mormons who are being being denied the opportunity to decide what shows are best for their families.

The backward “solution” for the blue-nosed station is to hijack the remote control, so they can exert an undue influence on what their viewers think and believe. Denying people access to information and a puritanical desire to make decisions for others is a disgrace. NBC should strongly consider yanking ownership rights away from this rogue, anti-freedom station that believes it knows better than its viewers.
