Target is donating proceeds from its Pride t-shirts to the Family Equality Council. This makes Porno Pete very, very angry:
The Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) founder reports that Target has pledged to donate 100 percent of earnings from “pride” T-shirt sales during June to the Family Equality Council, a group that is against the proposed constitutional amendment that will go to Minnesota voters in November (see earlier story).
“It’s unbelievable to me that Target would give $120,000 to the pro-homosexual marriage side, right in the middle of a ballot campaign,” he comments. “This will certainly have an impact on Target’s bottom line, as pro-traditional marriage Americans find out that Target is now a pro-same-sex marriage company.”
Yes, many large corporations have chosen to stand on the right side of history. And yes, it will have an impact on Target’s bottom line, because when the LGBT community publicizes a company supporting us, we support them back.
Over at his blog, Porno Pete comments further, but less sure of himself:
Clearly, Big Business is gambling that opposition to homosexuality is dying out in the USA. I hope they are wrong…
They’re not wrong. Super-majorities of younger Americans, including Republicans, support full equality for LGBT people. Every year more of them turn eighteen. Porno Pete’s cause is lost, which is evident in the fact that a majority of Americans now support marriage equality. Wingnuts love to point at the fact that a bunch of states have written hatred into their constitutions, as they, in their un-American way, have voted on the civil rights of a minority group at the ballot box. But if a lot of those votes were held today, or several years from now? Those marriage bans will go away, in Porno Pete’s lifetime, and he and his fellow anti-gay activists will be out of a job. These are just cold, hard, great facts.
