GLAAD Unveils Commentator Accountability Project To Track Activists’ Anti-Gay Rhetoric
According to a press release from the organization, the project “aims to educate the media about the extreme rhetoric of over three dozen activists who are often given a platform to speak in opposition to LGBT people and the issues that affect their lives.”
This follows on the heels of an ad Faithful America tried to get placed on MSNBC taking that network to task for repeatedly giving a hatemonger a national platform from which to incite passions against gay Americans. When was the last time you saw the leader of the Ku Klux Klan or Aryan Nations invited to speak on MSNBC, or for that matter anywhere else in the corporate news media, on the pretext of providing “balance”?
Well of course the kook pews aren’t standing for it…
To GLAAD: You can’t silence Christians
Since they cannot win the debate on the merits, he says the only thing left for these activists to do is try to silence those who disagree with them. But he asserts that that will never happen.
“They need to understand — liberals and secularists — that as Christ followers, we will never, ever stop speaking God’s truth in love,” [Matt] Barber comments.
If I spread one filthy lie after another about you that means I love you… Leaving aside the preposterous trademark ownership of the Christian religion, the Southern Poverty Law Center addressed this trope succinctly two years ago:
Generally, the SPLC’s listings of these groups is based on their propagation of known falsehoods — claims about LGBT people that have been thoroughly discredited by scientific authorities — and repeated, groundless name-calling. Viewing homosexuality as unbiblical does not qualify organizations for listing as hate groups.
And what was true in 2010 is still true. The reason Matt Barber’s group, Liberty Council of Orlando Florida is labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center is their propagation of known falsehoods, not their ersatz Christianity. Or to put it even more succinctly:
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Mr. Barber, you keep using that word Christian…I do not think it means what you think it means…
This isn’t rocket science Matt and it isn’t even beyond even your pea brain’s ability to understand. You aren’t being silenced, your habit of telling lies is catching up with your reputation. And so it is with all your fellow travelers in the anti-gay agenda. It was one thing to stand by the bible, but then you decided that the bible wasn’t good enough and with that first goddamned lie you told about your gay neighbors in this life you took that first step down the road to perdition. Lies are like heroin Matt…eventually you need to keep upping the dose and it’s never enough. Look at you…can you even say one true thing about gay people anymore? It’s just all lies with you now Matt. That’s what happens. And one day you look in the mirror and instead of seeing a face in there what you see is a thin boilerplate smile tacked on to a sack of lies. And when that moment comes what else do you do but turn away from that mirror knowing, finally, that it’s what everyone else sees too.
Hate does not share power within a person. Whatever religion you had, whatever your feelings about Jesus Christ may have once been, your hatred of gay people drove it out of you long ago, along with everything fine and noble you could have been. You and Tony and all the rest. You’re done. As decent, moral, upright human beings you’re finished. And you did it to yourself the moment you chose lies over self respect, because self respect kept getting in the way of your culture war on your gay neighbors. You let the devil in Matt and now you’re his. All GLAAD is doing is pointing out that fact before the next staffer on some cable TV news program makes a fool of themselves. But let’s face facts Matt…it’s not long before even GLAAD’s project becomes superfluous. The stench of years and years of looking people in the face and lying through your teeth proceeds you. Commentator Accountability Project or not eventually the door to the TV studio is going to close on all of you. Because you are known by the company you keep and even cable TV has standards.
