Michele and Marcus Bachmann are taking to the pages of People magazine to try to pretend they’re not “biased” against gay people. Cute:
In the Oct. 31 issue of People, the couple defended themselves against accusations of harboring an anti-gay bias. “There’s never been a bias,” Marcus Bachmann said. “I’m no better than anyone else,” Michele added.
We’re not biased! We just want to change people’s sexual orientation and use the power of government to deny gay people their constitutional rights! But it’s not bias!
The part I find interesting, though, is that People also talked to Michele’s stepsister Helen LaFave, who is a lesbian:
“Yes, we are family and love each other, but she seems to have a disconnect. Her statements and actions related to gay rights are very hurtful, whether she understands that or not.” Their once-close relationship reportedly strained over Bachmann’s anti-gay activism.
Yeah, it’s kind of hard to actually love a family member when you’re willing to hurt them in order to appeal to voters, or when you have a happy lesbian stepsister whose life you refer to as being in “bondage” or “personal enslavement.” But I guess we all have different definitions of love…
