As Joe points out, NOM’s anti-gay bus tour last summer was a resounding failure, with counter-protesters outnumbering supports at almost every stop. Indeed, it was such a failure that the man who organized said bus tour, Louis Marinelli, came face to face with the hatred on his own side and realized that he was fighting for an unjust cause, and recently came out as a supporter of marriage equality. Apparently seeking to compound on that success, the New Yorker’s [sic] Family Research Foundation has decided to try the bus tour thing again:

We’ve packed our bags, loaded up an RV wrapped in marriage messaging and will be stopping at various press conferences, marriage rallies and visits with legislators from Buffalo to Binghamton, Syracuse to Staten Island, and Lackawanna to Long Island. May 22nd will be “Mayday for Marriage” Sunday. NYFRF is encouraging the 5,000 churches on our mailing list to focus on marriage during worship services on this particular day. We are asking pastors to publicly pray for marriage in New York State, preach on the biblical definition of marriage, encourage congregants to contact their elected officials on this issue, and finally to take up a special love offering to help underwrite NYFRF’s marriage defense initiative.
The “mayday” terminology is probably fairly accurate, since New York public opinion is decidedly not on the side of bigotry and exclusion. New Yorkers are indeed strong supporters of marriage — for everyone.
Really not sure what they think a bus tour is going to accomplish, though.
