Music time! As I’ve been obsessively-compulsively working to load my very large music library onto this hard drive and that hard drive, I’ve been rediscovering quite a few treasures I didn’t even know I had. One has been a tribute to the late, genius singer Gram Parsons called Return of the Grievous Angel.  Gram Parsons was Emmylou Harris’s mentor, so she’s all over the record, along with a bunch of my other favorite artists, like Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, and so many others.  You should buy this CD, is what I’m saying.  So we’ll start with three of my favorites from this record, and then if you’re not familiar with Gram Parsons’ music, please fix that.  Then shuffle on the iTunes machine, rinse, repeat, and we’ll see where we are ten songs later, etc. More after the jump.

Pretenders & Emmylou Harris – “She” [Gram Parsons cover]

Evan Dando & Juliana Hatfield – “$1,000 Wedding”

Whiskeytown – “A Song For You”

1. Red Mountain Church – “Thou Poor, Afflicted, Tempted Soul”
2. The Civil Wars – “No Ordinary Love” [Sade cover]
3. Edith Piaf – “Jézébel”
4. Wilco – “Spiders (Kidsmoke)”
5. The Beatles – “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”
6. Soul Miner’s Daughter – “With Me”
7. Chess in Concert: Live from Royal Albert Hall – “Hymn to Chess” [company]
