Dan Savage over at SLOG pointed me to this latest example of how the kook pews fight for virtue, morality and godliness. Scott Maxwell over at the Orlando Sentinel tells how the Florida Family Policy Council is just all kinds of hopping mad at the latest blow to Florida’s anti-gay adoption law…

“Arrogant judicial activism” was how the finger-waggers at Orlando’s Florida Family Policy Council described the ruling in an alert it sent out to its members last week.

And to make their point about just how frightening this ruling was, the Policy Council included a photograph of the couple ‚Äî a strange and androgynous-looking duo, one with bleached skin and both with mullet haircuts. The couple look so odd (you literally can’t tell whether they are male or female) that one might wonder how any judge could place a young child with such a disturbing-looking duo…

That’s the photo the Florida Family Policy Council sent out to it’s members. Here’s a photo of the actual Lesbian couple who adopted that kid…

First of all, adoption isn’t about how you look, it’s about how big your heart is for a kid. The two in that first shot for all anyone knows might well make excellent parents too. But when you are about inciting hatred of the alien other, you take care to make sure your images of them push people’s buttons. Think of all the stereotypical caricatures Asians, blacks and Jews used over the ages to reinforce fear and loathing and you see, plainly, sickeningly, what’s going on here. Look more closely at that first photo. It is distorted, I suspect deliberately so.

But even more sickening is this one simple grotesque fact: The Florida Family Policy Council had to know, Absolutely Had To Know, that the photo they showed their members would, sooner rather then later, be placed in public side-by-side with a photo of the actual couple in question…and they obviously could not have cared less.

This is what hate does to a person. Worse then heroin or crack, hate will eat everything that is you away, bit by bit, piece by piece, all your morals, all your higher aspirations, your love of God, your love of virtue, every noble thing you might have once stood up for, every decent thing within you…it will have it all. Because hate will not share power with anything else inside of you. It will have it all, leave you an empty shell it and it alone can fill, and everything better you might have once become vanishes forever. The people who sent that message out with the wrong photo knew, they knew, that it would brand them as cheats and liars. And that did not bother them for one second, did not give them pause for one moment.

Because they had to strike at the enemy…the enemy…the hated enemy…the hated enemy that gave an orphan child love, and a home… They had to strike at the enemy…the enemy…the enemy…

And the enemy is Love…
