I rarely call on Truth Wins Out supporters to sign a petition, but this one is worthy of your signature.
Liam Jameson is a senior at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. At one time he tried to commit suicide because he could not accept his sexual orientation.
However, he found strength within and led a protest last April after a teacher was denied a full-time teaching position and dismissed as Dowling’s track coach and substitute teacher because he was openly gay. That sparked Liam and three fellow students to stage a walk out in front of the school. Over 250 students joined the demonstration, along with alumni and local news channels.
To make a difference, Liam fought the administration to found One Dowling Family, a support group for LGBT students at school. As a result of these efforts, Liam was awarded a Gold Matthew Shepard Scholarship by the Eychaner Foundation in Des Moines.
Unfortunately, school administrators are bullying Liam and refusing to let this scholarship be presented at the senior awards assembly on May 5th.
